Grandpa – the kids are here!

March 3, 2011

It’s spring break and the kids are in town.  Mom and Dad have left them with you for the day while they spend some “alone time” together.  Perfect.  Little Jimmy is bouncing off the walls and Sarah is tugging on your sleeve.  What do you do?  Other than holler at Grandpa.

You do what any other bright-eyed and bushy-tailed (read: energetic) grandparent does – you take them golfing!  And you most certainly take your colorful CRYSTAL GOLF balls along with you!

Talk about entertainment, why Jimmy boy will not only be enthused with the idea he gets to swing the golf club, but he’ll LOVE the fact his golf balls are shiny and littered with doo–dads!  Adults refer to them as logos.  Warning:  Consider leaving the ButterFly and LadyBug golf balls in the bag.  Boys are easily distracted when it comes to bugs and flying insects.

Sarah?  She’ll be happy with the glimmery pink ones.  In fact, if you simply let her hold them, it might prove sufficient to occupy her attention for the next 17 holes!

Okay.  Who are we kidding?  Neither one of these kids will last 18 holes (and neither will Grandpa), so make sure you’ve made lunch reservations at the club, minus the Sprite.  No sense in agitating the critters, is there?

Jabbering jaws, grilled cheese and jelly—next thing you know it will be two o’clock.  And you know what that means--nap time!  Yes Grandpa, you can take a nap, too.  You’ll need it after coaching the kids through 9 holes on the golf course.

But the funny thing?  Come pick-up time, as you're nudge the dearies out to their car, wave them off and close the door, you’ll look at one another and realize what a great day it’s been.  You spent time with the kids, found something you all could enjoy…  Does it get any better?

Nope.  Time spent together with family is as good as it gets – especially when everyone has fun.  You create memories, strengthen your bond…

And manage to keep the kids out of trouble.  Brilliant!  Wisdom seasons with age, doesn’t it?
